The traders committee decided to donate some of their funds to the Willen Hospice. The Hospice in Luton benefits the local people in their times of need and survive on charitable donations.

This photo shows a cheque for £419 being presented to Katy.

Little Katy (pictured) touched the traders hearts with her cheeky smile and boundless energy. The traders helped to raise funds to send Katy, alocal girl with a long suffering illness, to Florida. They did this by asking the public and traders alike to give any lose change to cover the steps of the Market Cross. Over £419 was raised.

Gordon Beaney "strapped" to an instructor during his parachute jump in late October 2004 in aid of The Pasque Hospice, Luton.

On hearing the Beaney Family's courageous effort to raise £1000 in memory of their late father Lesley, who passed away at the Pasque Hospice earlier in the year, the Traders decided that they would donate £250 if the jump was completed. Gordon, along with family members Carl & Lesley, and friends Simone Pearcy and Ryan Thorne managed to raise in excess of £2,500 on completion of the jump. What made the jump even more successful was the fact that Mrs. Beaney paid nearly £1,000 for the jump to take place , thus allowing more money to be donated to The Pasque. The Traders would like to wish the Beaney family every success in their continued fundraising events planned for the future.

The Committee are looking at ways of getting maximum publicity for the market including charitable donations to the local community. We have made a donation to the District Councils' coffers to help improve the signs around Leighton Buzzard.(picture showing cheque presentation to Mrs.Pam Blackmore, Town Centre Manager ). The Traders, along with Dunstable Market and the Council undertook a month long advertising campaign on local radio station to publisize the market further.

Pictured here is Richard Broom from Leighton Buzzard who ran the marathon in memory of a close relative. This was marathon run number eight for Richard who donates all sponsorship money to Cancer Research UK. The market traders started his appeal with a £500 donation if he wore a shirt sponsored by the Leighton Buzzard Traders . The traders then raised a further £75 by collecting loose change from customers and themselves, the day before the race. The total money collected by Richard is over £2,163 and still rising! Richard's finishing time was 4hours 4minutes. There could well be another attempt next year to get below the 4hour mark! The Traders wish him well on any future marathon runs. Richard has subsequently run the 2003 Marathon and raised over £1300.

Photos show President Joe Harrisons' visit to Leighton Buzzard market which was part of his "get to know the markets in the provinces tour". We were honoured that he chose Leighton Buzzard as one of those markets. The Presidents' visit coincided with the National Markets Fortnight Promotion which saw Leighton Buzzard participate in.

Left, the two photos are of the Knocking Coffin, Gothic related stall run by Elizabeth-Jane & Steve Phipps who did a lot of the organizing for the National Market Fortnight. They also donated prizes and did a lot of the running around. The traders thank them for their hard work!!
